Abstract

The importance of the use of Raman spectroscopy for the rapid identification and characterization of phytochemicals present in plants were investigated. Raman spectroscopy offers significant advantages for the analysis of complex chemical compounds because it does not require laborious sample preparation and it is a non-destructive method. Chemometric analysis of the Raman spectral data provides details for the detection of chemical structures which are responsible for a particular therapeutic activity. The details provided in this article demonstrates the special potential of Raman spectroscopy for the study of plant metabolites.
